De Lima ousted as Justice Committee Chairperson

Voting 16-4, senators dethrone Sen.Leila de Lima as senate committee chairperson of the committee on justice and human rights.

The 16 senators who voted against Sen. De Lima are the following:

  • Senate Majority Floor Leader Vicente Sotto III
  • Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano
  • Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri
  • Sen. Panfilo Lacson
  • Sen. Cynthia Villar
  • Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian
  • Sen. Gregorio Honasan
  • Sen. Sonny Angara
  • Sen. Joel Villanueva
  • Sen. Richard Gordon
  • Sen. Nancy Binay
  • Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito
  • Sen. Manny Pacquiao
  • Sen. Loren Legarda
  • Sen. Grace Poe
The 4 senators who stood by her and also her party mates at the Liberal Party (LP) are:

  • Sen. Franklin Drilon
  • Sen. Risa Hontiveros
  • Sen. Francis Pangilinan
  • Sen. Paolo Benigno Aquino IV
While 2 senators abstained:
  • Sen. Ralph Recto
  • Senator Antonio Trillanes IV
The justice and human rights panel is now headed by Sen. Richard Gordon, with Sen. Ping Lacson as vice chair.

Committee members include Sen. Pacquiao, Sen. Zubiri, Sen. Cayetano, Sen. Poe, Sen. Pangilinan, and Sen. De Lima.

In his acceptance speech, Sen. Gordon said he is “honored” to have been chosen to head the panel. He claimed he did not "lobby" for the position.
