Senator and People’s champ Manny Pacquiao hit another knockout as he slammed senator Leila De Lima for appearing to defend the witness and self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato on the Senate investigation into the extrajudicial killings on the anti-drug campaign of the administration.
What I understand, Mr. Chairman dito, ito ay inquiry sa isang witness para pakinggan natin yung statement ng witness. Hindi natin dedepensahan siya kung hindi i-examine kung nagsasabi siya ng totoo.Pacquiao addressed this to Senator Dick Gordon, Senate chair of Committee on Justice and Human Rights after Sen. De Lima appealed to his colleagues not to “mislead” Matobato.
Tayong mga senador nagi-imbestiga, hindi magpo-proktekta sa witness. ‘Yun po ang rules natin dito.
De Lima said,
I go back to my appeal earlier, iwasan po natin misleading. Kapag naman po siguro meron siyang ine-explain, hayaan naman po siya para maka-explain.Gordon then responds on De Lima’s appeal:
I would normally say I resent that remark... but you’re a lady. I will always respect you as lady. There's no attempt on the part of this representation and I believe people seated on this desk here have any attempt to mislead.Matobato was again present on the senate inquiry for the second time to testify on the alleged killings he executed as part of the orders of President Rodrigo Duterte when he was still the mayor of Davao City.
Please don't cast any aspersions, we're all lawyers here. I don't want to lecture any lawyer here and I don't want to be lectured either.
Matobato also admitted being a member the so-called Davao Death Squad (DDS).
