Police chief Jovie Espenido revealed that he saw the name of former Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary and now Senator in a logbook on which drug transactions were kept by the arrested Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa
The Albuera Mayor was arrested on October 5 and charged with illegal possession of dangerous drugs and firearms.
"May [pangalan ng] senador nga nakita ko - dating secretary ng DOJ [Department of Justice] siguro iyon," police chief Espenido said. [Translation: I saw [the name of] a senator - perhaps that of a former Department of Justice Secretary.]Espinedo did not mention any name, but it was only Senator Leila De Lima who was a former DOJ secretary among the incumbent senators, reported by CNN.
Meanwhile, De Lima denied the accusation of Espenido and said it was a “fabricated lie.”
The lady senator, a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, has been tagged by several drug transactions particularly the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
She has been pinning down Duterte and claimed that the accusation on her involvement on illegal drugs was part of latter’s demolition job to tarnish her reputation.
"So, he wants me out. He wants me finished," De Lima said in the interview.UPDATE: This report of CNN Philippines where they said it was only Senator Leila De Lima who was a former DOJ secretary among the incumbent senators on which drug transactions were kept by Mayor Espinosa, was already deleted on their website. The Thinking Pinoy page on Facebook posted it and said maybe, CNN's reason is because there is also another incumbent senator who became a former DOJ secretary, and that's Sen. Franklin Drilon - from the year 1992-1995.
