After resigning as Ms. Earth – Philippines, Imelda Schweighart blames the lack of support from Filipinos on her stint in Miss Earth 2016.
"I think what went wrong is that I lack support," said Schweighart in an exclusive phone interview aired on "Tonight with Boy Abunda" on Thursday as reported by ABS-CBN News. The former Ms. Earth – Philippines became controversial over her statements like comparing Hitler to President Rodrigo Duterte. She was recently bashed in social media over a viral video of her telling that the Ms. Earth 2016, Ms. Ecuador is fake and had undergone cosmetic surgery.
"Nobody like assisted me. Emotionally I'm drained from all the work and from not being myself. You know yung pagpipigil sa totoong ako, it's just too much for me. Parang I cannot be myself because you have to be this, you have to be that," she added.
This led netizens to react and some told her that she deserves not to get the crown.
Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why Imelda chose to resign.
But she explained in the interview:
I don't want to be a bad example. I think you know I carry the name of Miss Philippines Earth. Sa nag-viral na video na 'yun sabi ko ang perception ko ng isang Miss Earth kasi is natural. For me, natural beauty wins personally which is my right.READ ALSO: See How Kylie Versoza IMPRESSES UNICEF & The Rest Of The World, AMAZING!
I'm sorry. I know it was destined for her. I'm happy for her. That's bad, what is said there and it's not a good example like I'm the mother of haters (laughs). So I didn't want to be that --you know, encourage people to do the same.
