On the controversial death of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa, President Rodrigo Duterte said he believed on the version of police.
"Let me state my case as the chief executive of the executive branch: I believe in the version of the police," Duterte saidBut Duterte noted that if Senate found enough evidence then they should file a case in court, according to GMA News.
"If they have evidence to prove otherwise, then a case must be filed," he said.Senator Panfilo Lacson, a former PNP chief, noted that there are several loopholes in the testimonies of policemen and the incident might be a case of summary execution or it might be a form of extrajudicial killings.
Duterte insisted that he’s willing to protect the policemen from suit filed against them because it was part of his instruction particularly on the extensive anti-drug campaign of his administration.
"If anybody should go to prison, I should be the one. I assume full legal responsibility. If I rot in prison so be it," he said.
