Rep. Roque Slams Sen. De Lima For Being Choosy On Her Detention Cell, Burn!

"Di pwede namimili ang mga makakapangyarihan kung saan sila makukulong. Kung saan kinukulong ang ordinaryong tao, doon din sila ikulong. Tigil na yang hospital arrest. Tigil na yang special detention facilities."

In a press conference, the dean of the San Beda Graduate School of Law and Kabayan Party-list Representative Harry Roque slammed Senator Leila De Lima's statement that she would rather be detained at a military facility instead of a police detention center, ABS-CBN News reported.

Sen. De Lima said she trusts the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) more than the Philippine National Police (PNP) and would rather be detained by the military than by the police.

Rep. Roque said Sen. De Lima had no right to choose her place of detention.

At pwede ba, tama na yung proseso na akusado pa mamimili kung saan siya makukulong? Bakit gusto niya sa Armed Forces of the Philippines, dahil puro kalalakihan doon?

Rep. Roque later on apologized for the remark about Sen. De Lima's preference for the AFP.

In an emailed statement sent by Rep. Roque's office, it was said:

I apologize to Senator de Lima for what I said; I was out of line. It was an ill attempt at humor that was inexcusable. I do maintain however that the powerful should not be allowed to choose where they will be detained. That violates the equal protection clause of the Constitution.
