Email Conversations Of French Journalist Who Labelled A Blogger As "Troll" Goes Viral

"I have writen well-researched blogs since 2015, and not a single person has issued a valid rebuttal on any of those pieces. To be labelled a "troll" is not just an insult for me, but for all independent journalists." -Thinking Pinoy

A controversial email from a French journalist to one of the prominent blogger in social media is going viral on Facebook.

Last month, Chloé Rémond, the Southeast Asian correspondent of French TV Arte, contacted RJ Nieto, the man behind Thinking Pinoy blog, and asked if he can be interviewed for a documentary about President Rodrigo Duterte commissioned by their TV station.

Nieto obliged, but Rémond didn't contact him again until yesterday, May 2.

However, Nieto feels insulted after Rémond asked a controversial question.

NOTE: The following conversations you're going to read were uploaded on Thinking Pinoy - RJ Nieto Facebook page.

Nieto feels offended on Rémond's question. He then replied:

Rémond tried to explain her side on the next email. Look.

Nieto accepted Rémond's apology and agreed to be interviewed...

But on the sixth email conversation, Rémond somehow found another "journalist" to interview instead.

Meanwhile, Nieto contacted the TV station to complain about Rémond. On his email to Arte, Nieto said:

I believe that Remond committed serious breaches of journalistic ethics, and I also believe that your organization does not tolerate such behaviour.

You may contact me anytime for more information regarding this matter. I do not seek to make Duterte look good in the eyes of the international public, I only seek a more balanced narrative, and that is something that your Southeast Asian correspondent, due to her biases, may not be able to provide.
For your reference, below is the entire email of Nieto to French TV Arte about Rémond. Kindly read.

Dear Sirs/Madammes:

I am Rey Joseph Nieto, publisher of the ThinkingPinoy.net, one of the top political blogs in the Philippines. I have over 600,000 followers across social media platforms, with most of them being from Facebook, through my page Facebook.com/TheThinkingPinoy.

Your Southeast Asian correspondent Chloe Remond contacted me last month. She asked me if I can be interviewed for a documentary about President Duterte commissioned by your TV station.

I obliged, but she didn't contact me again until yesterday, when she asked:

"By the way, would you consider yourself as a troll? Would it be correct to present you a one of the "leader" of Duterte "trolls army"? If not do you know some? "

I am transparent about my political leanings but I am not a troll and I never considered myself one. She apologized after I told her that such a question is an insult to independent journalists like me, independent journalists who are not beholden to oligarchic interests.

I accepted her apology and agreed to be interviewed but she somehow magically found another "journalist" to interview instead.

It appears that Remond realized that I do not fit her narrative, and that my interview could possibly dispel one-sided notions about my government.

I believe that Remond committed serious breaches of journalistic ethics, and I also believe that your organization does not tolerate such behaviour.
